Friday, August 5, 2016 - Saturday, August 27, 2016 :: weekdays 10-6, Saturday 10-5, Sundays 12noon-4
We call it The Pecos. Past the village of Pecos, New Mexico, heading north along the Pecos River for thirteen miles, moving away from the river up Holy Ghost Creek a short distance is the very little cabin my grandmother built in 1917. I first went to The Pecos at six weeks old and I have the POST Magazine cover with my dad"s hand writing on it describing the event. The cabin has stayed in the family for Ninety-nine years. My dad and his brother caught a bazillion trout in the twenties and thirties and took his bride and kids there for the next four decades. I grew up with adventures in the river, we were forever "accidentally" falling in, and in the cave, in those days it was open for easy exploration. And endless fun in the woods with cousins, brothers and sisters and some amazing friends. Then in my college years I worked at Brush Ranch Camps, near by, and really discovered the massive Pecos Wilderness. It has been with me ever since. And now my kids grew up there too. So this has been a huge part of my art always. Maybe a third of my paintings have something to do with experiences in The Pecos. Giant Pines, Quaking Aspens, rivers and streams, and thunderstorms full of power and rich with beauty, all are deeply engrained. Deep canyons, high peaks, snow in the summer, wild flowers for ever.So now an art show dedicated to this, with a book to go along at the SUMNER & DENE GALLERY. Angus has filled our ENTIRE UPSTAIRS SHOWROOM with this tribute to THE PECOS!!!
